Predetermined Knockouts

For some time we have been asked about doing a predetermined or bracketed draw for knockout competitions. This provides an element of predictability of a route through a competition, but it also means that matches for later rounds can be started as tables and players become available, making the most of the time in venue and saving players from unnecessary waiting around for draws to occur.

By default it will create a predetermined draw in a classical, the first match in round 2 is contested by the winners of round 1 matches 1 and 2.. The second match in round 2 contested by the winners of match 3 and 4. When using this method, you can also see the Brackets view as a visualization aid to see how the tournament is progressing.

However, if you check the Random draw box, you can randomize the draw for all rounds. This means a bracketed view is not possible, but does allow you operate your comp more smoothly – and here’s why.

In a predetermined knockout, when you complete a result it will automatically put the winner into the relevant match in the next round. This means that with the aid of the Scoreboard functionality – potentially with in-venue tablets – your competion could run itself.

The bracketed view and competition views have all been altered to reflect these great changes and comps can be updated by the Admin area, Captain Scorecard, Referee mode and the Scoreboard.
